Refund & Billing Policy

This Refund & Billing Policy explains how tokens are sold on Debate Arena (the "Platform", at https://debate-arena.example) and why purchases are final. It forms part of, and should be read with, our Terms of Service. Contact: support@debate-arena.example.
1. What you are buying
1.1 The Platform sells tokens, an in-app virtual credit, in fixed bundles called token packs. Tokens are spent to unlock features of the Service (for example, creating a debate or posting anonymously).
1.2 Tokens are digital consumer items. They are intangible digital content that is delivered and made available for use immediately upon successful payment.
1.3 Tokens are not money, currency, legal tender, a deposit, or a stored-value instrument. They have no cash value, are non-transferable, and cannot be exchanged, redeemed, or converted into cash or any other item of value.
1A. Two types of tokens
The Platform uses two types of tokens. Both are spent the same way inside the Service, but they differ in how you get them and whether they expire.
Permanent tokens
1A.1 Permanent tokens are tokens that you buy (token packs), receive as a new-account / sign-up bonus, or are granted to all users in a Platform event.
1A.2 Permanent tokens do not expire. They remain in your account until you spend them, or until your account is closed or terminated (see clause 8).
Promo tokens
1A.3 Promo tokens are free, promotional tokens credited when you redeem a valid promo code or take part in a specific promotion. They are a marketing benefit, not a purchase.
1A.4 Promo tokens expire. Each promo token has a due (expiry) date. Any promo tokens not spent by their due date are automatically removed ("burned") from your account, with no refund, replacement, cash value, or compensation, and without prior notice. The due date, and any other conditions, are shown when the promo code is issued or redeemed.
1A.5 Promo tokens are personal to your account, are non-transferable, have no cash value, and may carry additional conditions (for example, a minimum, an expiry period, or limited eligible features). We may withdraw, change, or expire a promotion at any time, and may cancel promo tokens obtained through error, abuse, fraud, or breach of the Terms of Service.
Spending order — promo tokens first
1A.6 When you perform an action that costs tokens, the Platform automatically spends your promo tokens first, and only uses your permanent tokens once your eligible promo tokens are exhausted. This is designed to help you use promo tokens before they expire. You cannot choose a different spending order.
What this means for refunds
1A.7 The "all sales final / non-refundable" rules in this Policy apply to purchased permanent tokens. Promo tokens are free and are never refundable — expiry or removal of promo tokens does not entitle you to any refund, and is not affected by the exceptions in clause 6.
2. Pricing and currency
2.1 Token pack prices are shown on the purchase page before you pay. Prices may be displayed in a foreign currency and converted at checkout by our payment provider; your bank or card issuer may apply its own conversion rate or fees.
2.2 Prices may include or exclude applicable taxes as indicated at checkout. Any taxes required under Malaysian law are handled by the Merchant of Record where applicable.
2.3 We may change token pack prices and contents at any time. Changes do not affect purchases already completed.
3. Payment processing and Merchant of Record
3.1 Payments are processed by our third-party payment provider, which acts as the Merchant of Record for token sales. By purchasing, you also accept that provider's terms presented at checkout.
3.2 We do not store or process your full card or banking details; these are handled by the payment provider under its own security and privacy practices.
4. Delivery
4.1 Tokens are credited to your account profile automatically once the payment provider confirms a successful payment.
4.2 You expressly consent to immediate delivery of the tokens and acknowledge that, because the digital content is supplied and credited at once, your right to cancel or withdraw is lost upon delivery (see clause 5).
4.3 If tokens are not credited within a reasonable time after a confirmed payment, email support@debate-arena.example with your order reference so we can investigate.
5. No refunds — all sales final
5.1 All token purchases are final and non-refundable once the tokens have been credited to your account profile.
5.2 Because tokens are digital consumer items that are delivered and usable immediately, we do not offer refunds, exchanges, or cancellations for:
- a change of mind or accidental purchase;
- tokens you have already spent, in whole or in part;
- failure to use tokens before account closure;
- dissatisfaction with user-generated content or another user's conduct; or
- features changing, being removed, or being temporarily unavailable.
5.3 This policy applies to the fullest extent permitted by Malaysian law, including the Consumer Protection Act 1999 and the Contracts Act 1950.
6. Exceptions we will honour
Nothing in this Policy removes rights that cannot be waived under Malaysian law. We will provide a correction, re-credit, or refund where required by law, or in the following cases at our discretion:
- Duplicate charge — you were charged more than once for the same order.
- Non-delivery — your payment succeeded but no tokens were ever credited and we cannot credit them.
- Unauthorised transaction — a purchase made without your authorisation, once verified (this may also be handled directly by the payment provider).
To request a review under this clause, email support@debate-arena.example within 14 days of the charge with your order reference and a description of the issue.
7. Chargebacks
7.1 If you believe a charge is incorrect, please contact us before initiating a chargeback so we can resolve it quickly.
7.2 Initiating a chargeback or payment dispute for tokens you have received and/or spent may result in suspension or termination of your account and forfeiture of remaining tokens, without affecting any other right we have.
8. Account closure and unused tokens
8.1 Tokens have no cash value. If your account is closed or terminated — by you or by us, including for breach of the Terms of Service — any unused tokens are forfeited and are not refundable or transferable.
9. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date will change, and the version in effect at the time of your purchase governs that purchase.
